25 GHz 3-dB Bandwidth Directly Modulated DBR Laser at 55°C
Temperature effects on a novel directly modulated DBR laser are investigated experimentally. The device consists of an active region and an equivalent phase shift distributed Bragg reflector (EPS-DBR), which is specially designed to enhance the modulation bandwidth. When the temperature increases from 25°C to 55 °C, degradations on characteristics of the device are observed, especially 3-dB bandwidth decreases from 30 GHz to 18 GHz. However, it is possible to mitigate a degradation caused by the temperature rise with adjusting currents injected to the EPS-DBR, and achieve 25 GHz 3-dB bandwidth at 55°C.
