A Metasurface Based on Absorption and Phase Cancellation for RCS Reduction

In this paper, a metasurface based on hybrid mechanism of absorption and phase cancellation is designed to achieve Radar Cross Section (RCS) reduction. Two types of the basic meta-atoms with absorption performance and a reflection phase difference of 180○ ± 37○are designed to achieve RCS reduction. The simulation results show that the -10 dB RCS reduction bandwidth of the metasurface is 130% (3.75 -17.75 GHz) and the -20 dB RCS reduction bandwidth of the metasurface is 103% (4.8 - 15 GHz). It does not contain lumped elements and has a compact structure with a profile height of 0.154 λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">max</inf>. What's more, the proposed metasurface is insensitive to oblique incidence and polarization.
