Pilot Protection Based on Hamming Distance for Transmission Line Connected to Renewable Energy Station
Affected by the converter control strategy, the fault characteristics of the renewable energy power supply are essentially distinctive from the traditional synchronous power supply, resulting in the deterioration of the traditional protection device action performance and the risk of rejection. In response to the above issues, the paper studies the fault current waveform difference between the renewable energy power supply and the traditional synchronous power supply, uses the Hamming distance to measure the current waveform difference, and proposes protection principle based on Hamming distance. The simulation results and fault recording data indicate that the Hamming distance can accurately distinguish the faults in and out of the zone in various fault scenarios, has good resistance to transition resistance and system noise, and can be applied to scenarios with weak output of renewable energy.
