Application of AI to Develop a Digital Twin of Energy Communities: Conceptual Approach

Until recently, the real-time virtual representation of energy objects has been limited by the partial integration of AI and the lack of harmonized protocols and standards. Digital twins are a solution for energy objects with high-energy intensity and energy consumption, objects with high economic, social and energy impact. A very important feature and major advantage of digital twins is their scalability. This advantage makes it easier to build and deploy digital twins of micro- and nano-smart grids in energy communities. This enables efficient management of large flows of renewable energy and establishes the place and role of Energy Societies as energy arbiters in a fully liberalised energy market. This article outlines the main steps in building digital twins in an energy community and systematises the latest legislation regulating this process.
