Monitoring of Induction 3-Phase Electric Motor under Different Conditions of Operation with the Help of Infrared Thermal Camera
Especially today electrical motors are necessary part of our life and are presence nearly in every residential or industrial application. Monitoring of these motors is essential, mainly in critical applications, in order to ensure that operates under the normal operations conditions. The measurement of the temperature of the motors is the key point in this direction because overheating is the most common cause of motor failure. In this article, an infrared thermal camera has been used for the depiction of the thermal behavior of an induction 3-phase electric motor under different conditions of operation. The measurements have been implemented in the most sensitive part of the electrical motor, the windings because in this part occurs the highest temperatures. Based on the results, it is clear that an infrared thermal camera is a worthwhile tool to examine an electric motor.
