A Posteriori Error Estimation in Computational Electromagnetics: A Recovery-Based Error Indicator

Recently, goal-oriented error estimation methods and mesh adaptation have garnered attention within the electromagnetic community. However, these methods are constrained by Galerkin orthogonality, necessitating that at least one of either the primal or dual problem achieves high-order estimation. Current approaches tend to be either computationally expensive or struggle to provide an accurate measure of the absolute error. In contrast, the method proposed in this paper enables a posteriori error estimation without incurring additional computational costs, and it ensures that the absolute error size remains within an acceptable range, by a recovery-based error indicator.

Abstract

Recently, goal-oriented error estimation methods and mesh adaptation have garnered attention within the electromagnetic community. However, these methods are constrained by Galerkin orthogonality, necessitating that at least one of either the primal or dual problem achieves high-order estimation. Current approaches tend to be either computationally expensive or struggle to provide an accurate measure of the absolute error. In contrast, the method proposed in this paper enables a posteriori error estimation without incurring additional computational costs, and it ensures that the absolute error size remains within an acceptable range, by a recovery-based error indicator.
