Nanosecond Precision Time Synchronization Over Large Scale High Speed Ethernet Network

In this paper, we present a mechanism that enable time synchronization over 25Gbps high-speed Ethernet network with nanosecond-level precision. The synchronization process is of high precision, with maximum 4.5 ns synchronization error in directed connected scenario. The network is also highly scalable, supporting thousands of nodes extended through Time Distribution Switch (TDS) devices, with insignificant 3.5 ns per level performance degradation.

Abstract

In this paper, we present a mechanism that enable time synchronization over 25Gbps high-speed Ethernet network with nanosecond-level precision. The synchronization process is of high precision, with maximum 4.5 ns synchronization error in directed connected scenario. The network is also highly scalable, supporting thousands of nodes extended through Time Distribution Switch (TDS) devices, with insignificant 3.5 ns per level performance degradation.
