An Ultra-wideband Reconfigurable Transmitarray Using Tightly Coupled Dipole Elements

In this paper, an ultra-wideband, tightly coupled, reconfigurable transmitarray (UTRTA) with 50° beam scanning capability is proposed. The ultra-wideband performance of the array is improved by optimizing the coupling effects between adjacent elements, and a 1-bit reconfigurable phase function is achieved using a current path reversal mechanism. A <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$16 \times 16$</tex> UTRTA is designed, demonstrating a peak gain of 19.6 dBi (10.5 GHz), and a simulated 3 dB gain bandwidth of 29.3% (12.2 to 16.4 GHz). Additionally, the array achieves a 0° to 50° beam scanning range in the E-plane with a gain reduction of no more than 1.4 dB. This proposed UTRTA features a wide transmission band and reconfigurable phase functionality, which makes it a good candidate for wireless communication systems.
