A Self-Reconfigurable Impedance Matching Network for a Wideband Radio Frequency Energy Harvester in 65nm CMOS Technology
This paper presents a wideband radio frequency energy harvester with the use of a novel, digitally controlled impedance matching network (IMN) operating in the 850 MHz to 950 MHz frequency band. The proposed design utilizes a Lumped (Shunt) Reactance Cancellation L-Type impedance matching network (IMN). With this design, manipulation of impedance values becomes possible making impedance matching between complex sources and load sources at different frequencies. The circuit was implemented in 65nm CMOS technology. The system achieved a peak PCE of 78.26% at −14 dBm input power and a load of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{100\mathrm{k}}\Omega$</tex>. The design exhibited a DR of 16.31 dB and a sensitivity at 1V of −14 dBm at 900 MHz. The design offers a return loss of −10 dB across the frequency range with a peak value of −41.92 dB. The integration of the control circuit is influenced by input power levels. The system effectively operates from −17 dBm to higher power levels, with optimal matching for 850 MHz to 950 MHz at −10 dBm input power.
