Wideband Circularly Polarized Endfire Planar Antenna Based on Magneto-Electric Dipole

A wideband circularly polarized (CP) endfire planar antenna based on magneto-electric dipole is proposed in this work. The antenna is constructed based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), where the open-ended SIW operates as magnetic dipole and two metal strips connected with SIW operate as electric dipole. By using C-shaped tapered electric dipoles and etching elliptical notches on both top and bottom surfaces of SIW, the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth can be effectively broadened. Simulated results show that the −10 dB reflection coefficient and 3-dB AR bandwidths of the proposed antenna are 35 GHz ~ 80 GHz and 38.8 GHz ~ 71.1 GHz, respectively. And the simulated peak gain is 8.6 dBi.
