Artificial Vision System for Digital Inspection of Dimensional and Geometric Measurements in Closed-Loop Manufacturing Architecture

This research project seeks to develop a measurement system compatible with digital technologies and based on artificial vision to operate within a closed-loop architecture that provides data to compensate for manufacturing errors. The main requirement for the measurement system is to determine both dimensional and geometric deviation errors in prismatic pieces. Initially, the variables involved in these measurement processes must be identified, the error determined, each measured feature digitally represented, applied through automatic feature recognition algorithms, and codified data transfer between CAD/CAM systems. The system must have a local measurement (in the machine) and the possibility of being used on site outside the machine. Data transfer should promote system integration and overcome interoperability barriers by using neutral languages to encode results. Finally, the results obtained are compared with the designed system and with the MITUTOYO M574 coordinate measurement machine.
