Retroreflecting Modulation-based Underwater Wireless Optical Communication with Coherent Detection
A retroreflecting modulation-based coherent under-water wireless optical communication (UWOC) system with M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) modulation formats is proposed. The feasibility of the system is studied by a series of experiments using the simplified coherent detection scheme. To guarantee the bit error rates (BERs) reach the target values lower than the forward error correction (FEC) limit, the maximum channel attenuation for the system with BPSK, QPSK, and 8PSK formats (with corresponding data rates of 150 Mbps, 300 Mbps, and 450 Mbps) are measured as about 18.4 dB, 16.15 dB, and 12.55 dB, respectively.
