C+L 800G Integrated Coherent Receiver Based on Silicon Photonics

This paper shows an integrated coherent receiver (ICR) based on silicon photonics, with a packaging size of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{26.2} \mathbf{mm} \ast \mathbf{12}\ \mathbf{mm} \ast \mathbf{4.35}\ \mathbf{mm}$</tex>. The device is defined by the OIF Implementation Agreement for Integrated Dual Polarization Micro-Intradyne Coherent Receivers [1]. The DC signals are controlled by 34 straight pins, while the RF signals are transmitted via a flexible printed circuit (FPC). The receiver achieves a back-to-back Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) of 16.02 dB at threshold bit error rate (BER), and sensitivity surpassing -30 dBm at 1567.13nm when operating at 400G PM-QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) SDFEC. More importantly, this device can achieve a responsivity of over 0.05 A/W and a 3dB O-E bandwidth over 70GHz across the entire C+L band, which is currently unprecedented for silicon photonic devices.
