Determination of Lead and Cadmium Ions Using Gold Nanoparticles Modified Screen-Printed Graphene Electrode

This work is aimed at improving the sensing performance of screen-printed graphene electrodes (SPGEs) to detect heavy metal ions. A simple electrochemical method for depositing gold nanoparticles on the SPGEs is presented in this paper. The modification on the electrode surface was characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The electrochemical performance of the modified electrodes was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and square wave anodic stripping voltammetry. Experimental results show that the electrochemical response of the SPGEs has been significantly improved by the modification of gold nanoparticles. The modified electrodes exhibit promising application for the detection of Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions in water.
