A Broadband LNA with Tri-Coupled Transformer for Gm-Boosting and Noise Canceling

This paper presents a broadband lower noise amplify (LNA) in 40nm process to support 5G wireless communication. The LNA cascades two differential neutralized common-source (CS) stages. Using tri-coupled transformer to achieve noise cancel, Gm boosting and broadband matching can be achieved concurrently. Moreover, the current refuse and nonlinear capacitance compensation techniques are employed to reduce power consumption and enhance linearity. The simulation results show that the LNA achieves a peak gain of 16.54 dB with a 3 dB bandwidth from 17.9 to 32.1 GHz. The minimum NF is 2.61 dB at 25.2 GHz and is below 4 dB from 17.9 to 32.1GHz. The overall size of the compact LNA is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.09\text{mm}^{2}$</tex>. The IP1dB is -5.42 dB with a power consumption of 11mw.
