Re-Engineering of Brainwaves to Increase Resistance to Distractions in Young Adults and Promote Optimal Learning
Deviation of attention or concentration from the current task is termed as distraction. Various psychological studies illustrate that distraction is valuable as far as it makes the person forget or escape from agony but also has destructive effects on the younger generation especially in maintaining focus, productivity, and achieving their career goals. This research focused on reducing distraction, especially in students studying under graduation. Audio photic brainwave entrainment using a Virtual reality device and noise-cancellation headphones is one of the effective ways to suppress task-irrelevant structures or distractions among young adults. This study was based on electroencephalograph signals from 14 healthy subjects. Initially, EEG signals were recorded from subjects under photic stimulation of 10Hz frequency. The Fast Fourier transform method was applied to electroencephalogram signals. The frequency band power ratios were observed, showing evidence that entrainment at alpha waves has synchronized the brain waves to alpha frequency and has reduced distractions by filtering out distractive sensory information. The topographical maps are also shown which supports the findings of the research.
