An Efficient Parallel Subdomain DGFEM for Multi-Physics Coupling Analysis

In this work, a subdomain discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (DGFEM) is proposed for electromagnetic-thermal-stress analysis. The proposed DGFEM discretizes the second-order partial differential equations (PDEs) straightfor-wardly, and the domain decomposition property of DG method is simultaneously kept by introducing numerical flux and a suitable Robin transmission condition (RTC) at the interface of neighboring subdomains. With the aim to solve the decomposed problems in an efficient way, a finite-element tearing and interconnecting (FETI)-like procedure is applied to separate the unknowns into surface unknowns and volume unknowns. Besides, an effective MPI strategy is developed in order to solve the decomposed matrix equations pertinent to each subdomain in a parallel approach. Compared with the classic DG method, the proposed subdomain DGFEM not only largely decreases the unknowns, but also improves the efficiency significantly. Several examples are investigated by the proposed algorithm, which will be presented during the conference.
