A Dual-Band Multi-Beam Dual-Polarized Luneburg Lens Antenna for High-Speed Rail Systems
A dual-band multi-beam dual-polarized Luneburg lens antenna has been proposed for high-speed rail systems. The antenna employs a three-layer Luneburg lens for multi-beam high gain radiation patterns. Two lower-band (LB) antenna and three higher-band (HB) antennas serve as a dual-band feed source of the Luneburg lens. The HB and LB antennas share the same aperture and are conformal to the spherical feed surface. The dual-band multi-beam antenna operates at the lower band of 1.71-2.17 GHz and the higher band of 3.4-3.6 GHz providing three different radiation beams, including two beams for long-range coverage with different azimuth angles and a wide beam for a short-range coverage. This antenna may find potential application in high-speed rail systems for large capacity and wide coverage.
