Front-to-Back Ratio Enhancement of a Base-Station Antenna with a Smaller Reflector

The front-to-back ratio (FBR) of a dual-polarized antenna is proposed and enhanced for 5G new radio (NR) base-station. To improve the performance of FBR, a slotted metal rim is incorporated. Moreover, the inclusion of a metal ring and a parasitic hat increases the gain of the antenna. The reflector is smaller, featuring a dimension of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.46\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}\times 0.46\lambda_{\mathrm{L},}$</tex> where <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}$</tex> represents wavelength in the free-space at the minimum operational frequency. Within the 5G frequency bands n28, n82, and n83, which span from 0.69 to 0.96 GHz, the antenna achieves the FBR exceeding 25 dB under the condition of return loss more than 15 dB. In addition, it provides a gain exceeding 7 dBi and ensures an isolation level greater than 30 dB.
