Resilient Pub/Sub Multicast in Dynamic MANETs with High Node Mobility

This paper addresses multicasting challenges in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), where communication relies solely on direct interactions between nodes without any infrastructure support. It explore a scenario where an event detected by one node must be communicated to a specific subset of nodes within the network. To achieve stable multicasting in a dynamic MANET environment, we focus on the Pub/Sub model that uses brokers for information dissemination and introduce strategies to enhance the system’s resilience to node mobility. Our proposal is based on three key principles: (1) Utilizing DTN7 at the network layer to maintain message arrival rates despite node mobility, (2) Dynamically generating and synchronizing broker replicas to ensure continuity of broker functions when connectivity is lost, and (3) Periodically broadcasting advertisement packets by brokers and their replicas to maintain communication paths, inspired by Named Data Networking (NDN) techniques. Simulations conducted using NS3 demonstrate that this approach significantly reduces latency for message delivery to subscribers and improves overall throughput. Additionally, the integration of DTN7 in the bundle layer mitigates performance degradation in environments with frequent node movement.
