Industry 4.0: Biotechnologies and the Implications For Innovation and Sustainability

Objective: The research aimed to explore the implications of Industry 4.0 for biotechnology, focusing on opportunities for innovation and impacts on sustainability. Methodology: To achieve this goal, a bibliographic research was carried out, which consists of the analysis and systematization of already published sources on the theme. The data survey was done on recognized platforms, such as SciELO, Scopus, Google Academic and Brazilian repositories, allowing for a comprehensive and substantiated view. During the information collection, floating readings were used to identify the relevant information, and a critical analysis of the collected data was carried out, organizing it into thematic categories and making connections between different studies. Results and data analysis: The results showed that Industry 4.0, driven by technologies such as the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, transforms productive processes and promotes greater efficiency. Biotechnology, in turn, stands out as an area of innovation, with applications ranging from health to agriculture and environmental protection. Practical examples, such as the use of genetically modified crops and the bioconversion of waste, show the potential of this intersection. However, the research also identified ethical and safety challenges associated with the use of biotechnologies, which should be considered. Conclusion: In conclusion, the intersection between Industry 4.0, biotechnology and sustainability presents itself as a strategic need for the 21st century. Technological innovations need to be accompanied by ethical and responsible practices so that they can make an effective contribution to sustainability. Managers and policymakers are thus encouraged to integrate economic growth with environmental responsibility, ensuring a more sustainable and healthy future.
