Video Collection ‘Spring Ritual Dances and Games of Pripyat Polissya’ by the Folklore Group ‘’Volodar‘’

In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the issue of preserving and popularizing Ukrainian culture is of particular importance. This is not only an act of resistance to cultural assimilation, but also a strategy for strengthening national identity. While defending our borders, we must also protect what shapes our identity: language, traditions, and historical memory. In this process, visualization of folklore material is essential, as it can attract a wider audience to get acquainted with our intangible cultural heritage. One of the most striking examples of this approach is the video collection “Spring Ritual Dances and Games of Prypiat Polissia,” which demonstrates a professional reconstruction of song and game vespers. This project was the result of a fruitful collaboration between researchers of Ukrainian folklore and professional filmmakers.
