Outsiderzy na stacji kolejowej. O "Marzycielu" Władysława Stanisława Reymonta
This article is devoted to analyzing Władysław Stanisław Reymont’s The Dreamer in the prism of the category of outsider. The author refers to Collin Wilson’s classification, who analyzes 20th-century literature and culture, underlines 3 types of outsiders (romantic, intellectual, and visioner). In Reymont’s novel, the reader may find mainly romantic and intellectual outsiders. Protagonists in The Dreamer lose illusion about their future. Unreconciled with their fate, they escape into the world of dreams, and casual sex, and rebel against social patterns. The monotony of their existence is intensified by the space of the station located far from large metropolises. Additionally, the atmosphere of boredom is intensified by the weather; the lack of sun and constant snowfall give the impression that this place is cut off from the world.
