Analysis of The Word “Itqān” in Terms of Arabic Language

It is important in Islam to perform one’s duty in a perfect way. Just as Allah (SWT) created this universe with perfection, it is incumbent upon human beings, as servants, to perform their actions in a complete/sound manner. In this context, conducting one’s work with precision is regarded as one of the fundamental pillars of human civilization. In Islam, in the concept known as the "construction of the earth", adhering to certain principles is fundamental. One of the key characteristics that distinguishes human beings from other creatures is their capability to build civilization and promote science for the welfare of humanity, especially by employing intellect befittingly when fulfilling their duties. It is only in this way that the wisdom behind Allah’s creation of humankind, and His subjection of the earth to their service, can be realized. This study analyzes the term itqān from the perspective of the Arabic language. First, the word is examined etymologically, with its meaning drawn from primary dictionary sources. Subsequently, examples from both poetry and prose are provided to further illuminate the nuances of this term. Then we relate Qur’ānic verses and ḥadīth, offering examples that emphasize the importance of this concept. In short, just as Allah (SWT) created all creatures for a purpose with flawlessness, if human beings execute their duties in a trustworthy manner, they will align themselves with the purpose of their creation. Thus, many of the problems steming from carelessness can be resolved.
