THE USE OF GIS TO ASSESS THE DEPLOYMENT OF FIRE AND RESCUE UNITS OF THE STATE FIRE SERVICE ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE CITY OF WARSAW
This article presents the results of a study aimed at answering the question, which was: How willthe change of location of two fire and rescue units of the State Fire Service in Warsaw affect thenumber of buildings, the number of kilometres of roads and the area serviced, with an assumedprobable time of arrival to the incident of the first forces and resources of the National Firefightingand Rescue System entities of up to 8 minutes? In order to answer the question thus posed, theresearch process used theoretical and empirical methods (case study). These methods are drivenby the need to use engineering tools to assess the level of safety and combine safety engineeringwith safety sciences. The results confirmed that network analyses performed with the use ofspatial information systems can be taken into account when assessing the impact of changingthe deployment (location) of fire and rescue units, while they did not provide a clear answer as towhether a change of location shortens or lengthens the arrival time of the forces and resources ofthe State Fire Service to potential incidents.
