Bioaccumulation In Median Lethal Concentration Of Heavy Metal Chromium On The Reproductive Tissues Of Insect Sphaerodema Rusticum

The present study investigates the effects of the heavy metal chromium on the aquatic insect Sphaerodema rusticum. Heavy metals are used in various industries, agriculture, food processing, and households in many forms. These metals are unique environmental and industrial pollutants because they are neither created nor destroyed by humans; instead, they are transported and transformed into different products. Polluted areas receive effluents from industrial, agricultural, municipal, and domestic waste. This review has shown that aquatic insects can be used as bioindicators of heavy metal pollution, specifically chromium, with an LC50 of 14 ppm for 48 hours. It is suggested that such investigations should be conducted continuously to assess heavy metal pollution in aquatic environments.
