Effect of artificial light exposure time on color fastness in wool dyed with natural dyes

The aim of this work was to determine the effect of artificial light exposure time on the color fastness of wool dyed with extracts of cochineal and purple onion peel. The methodology consisted of carrying out the dyeing on wool with different concentrations of the coloring extracts (50, 75 and 100%, based on the weight of the fiber), using the pre-mordented method with alum, carrying out three replicates of each test. By measuring the color in Cielab* coordinates, before and after exposing the samples to artificial light at times of 24, 48 and 72 hours, the value of the difference between before and after the test (ΔE) was determined. It was found that artificial light exposure time does not affect color fastness. Both dyes have good fastness to artificial light. Although it is affected by the concentration of the dye used.
