A Strain Measurement Method on the Upper Surface of Basin Insulator Based on OFDR Technique
In this paper, a method for the detection of strain in basin insulators is proposed. The system is based on a sensing fiber, which is fixed on the surface of a basin insulator. An interrogator measures the backscattered light from the sensing fiber, which varies with strain. The method enables strain measurements of 2.6 m with a spatial resolution of 1 mm, or 2600 sensing points. The strain is measured with a resolution of 5 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mu\varepsilon$</tex> and a linearity of 0.9998, and the whole system corresponds to a measurement time of 2 seconds. The method provides a simple and fast idea for insulator strain detection.
