Student-Centered Learning in HCI/UX/UI Framework: The Thai Experience
The rapid growth of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI) design underscores the need for specialized education. In Thailand, a significant gap exists in formal undergraduate programs for these fields. This study explores the learning experiences, challenges, and motivations of Thai students and young professionals pursuing HCI/UX/UI knowledge through self-directed methods. An online survey reveals a heavy reliance on digital resources like YouTube tutorials and online courses. Key challenges include UX/UI analysis, basic concept comprehension, and design tool usage. The study suggests that while self-directed learning is beneficial, a structured educational approach is necessary. Recommendations include enhancing curricula with practical applications, digital literacy, and community-based learning. Comparisons with other Southeast Asian developing countries reveal similar challenges and unique Thai context aspects. This study adds to the global discourse on HCI/UX education and proposes strategies for improving educational frameworks in Thailand.
