Empowering Circular Economy in Thailand’s Plastic Waste Management Through a Digital Platform
The proliferation of single-use plastics in Thailand has led to a mounting waste management crisis. Despite the government initiatives to promote recycling and a circular economy, the majority of plastic waste still ends up in landfills or the natural environment, causing severe ecological damage. This paper explores the development of a digital platform as a mechanism to connect diverse stakeholders (i.e. households, local governments and a university) via a LINE Front-end Framework application (LIFF app) and two web applications, respectively, to facilitate seamless data sharing and analysis. By fostering collaboration and transparency, the platform aims to drive innovative solutions, enhance production efficiency and reduce waste management costs. The paper details the platform’s design, development and pilot deployment in Nong Bua Sala subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, highlighting its potential to promote a circular economy and contribute to a sustainable future for Thailand.
