Design and Analysis of Microstrip Patch Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Applications

In this paper, a staircase defected ground structure micro strip patch antenna designed for operation at ultra-wideband frequencies from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. By using HFSS simulation software on FR4 substrate, this antenna has been meticulously manufactured. As a result of extensive parametric simulation studies conducted so far, results indicate that the return loss of this antenna is below -10 dB across the entire UWB spectrum while its maximum gain is recorded as 5dB at 10GHz.Proposed antenna exhibits moderate gain, acceptable return loss characteristics and bidirectional radiation patterns in both E&H planes, compared to alternative configurations reported in the existing literature. The UWB frequency range makes it highly suitable for various high-speed wireless communication applications. Additionally, the study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis with existing designs, highlighting the specific advantages of proposed antenna, particularly in terms of gain and return loss. These findings represent a significant contribution to the advancement of UWB communication systems, enabling enhanced performance capabilities and expanded bandwidth coverage.
