Design of an Optimized Multi-Stage Charging Approach for a Solar Tied Grid Connected Storage System for an EV Charging Station
The increase in electric vehicles (EV) will create a problem when charging simultaneously which could strain the conventional power grid. To mitigate this strain, there is a shift to establish EV charging stations (EVCS) tied into renewable energy sources. This involves integrating grids powered by renewable sources such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into the existing utility grid. Solar PV systems are particularly selected due to their affordability, low maintenance requirements, high efficiency, and reliability. This project designs a 400V DC bus voltage-based EV charging station that is fed by the utility grid and photovoltaic cells. Moreover, battery energy storage devices are used to combat the environment’s unpredictable patterns. To maintain charge SoC of EV batteries, a multi-step constant current charging approach is suggested at the charging station. The main purpose of the work is to feed continuous power to the grid by enhancing the charging strategy in EV. The MATLAB simulation is used to execute the model. The system performance has been verified and an explanation provided for the acquired findings.
