Simulation study of Load Frequency Control using Particle Swarm Optimization for Single Area Power System
This work assesses load frequency control of single-machine, single-area, non-reheat thermal power plant by implementing the integral time absolute error (ITAE) and integral time squared error (ITSE) cost functions and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. These cost functions are used to calibrate proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller parameters. For considering fluctuations happening on the load/demand side, a perturbation of twenty percent is given to the power system to check robustness and stability. The proposed method ensures better dynamic response with minimal frequency deviations, fast settling time, and robustness.
