Multi-Service Latency-Aware DCP Enabled Discontinuous Reception Framework

The 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) introduced the Downlink Control information for Power saving (DCP) signal as a Wake Up Signal (WUS) integrated into the discontinuous reception (DRX) mechanism. This signal plays a key role in allowing the gNB to intelligently optimize the UE's power efficiency. In our preliminary research, we discovered that the DCP mechanism can enhance power savings for UEs running a latency-aware service. In this study, we present a novel DCP DRX scheduling strategy tailored to the latency requirements of a multi-service scenario. Our approach involves an analytical model based on a discrete Markov chain, complemented by simulations that validate its efficacy. The simulations assess the improvement in DRX power savings achieved by transitioning from standard DCP to a latency-aware DCP configuration. Results demonstrate that applying the proposed DCP scheduling algorithm allows the UE to increase its sleep ratio by over 10%, without introducing unacceptable latency.
