Characterization and Optimization of Lightweight Foamed PLA Cantilevers for Low-Vacuum Energy Harvesting Applications

This study explores the integration of foamed poly(lactic) acid (PLA) for energy harvesting and electret applications in low-vacuum environments. PLA is a biocompatible polymer that can be used to fabricate piezoelectret and electret devices via additive manufacturing. We investigated the impact of extrusion temperature on the quality factor and resonant frequency of 3D printed cantilevers. Additionally, we examine the charging behavior and response of these cantilevers in vacuum down to $10^{-2} \mathrm{~Pa}$, in order to assess their suitability for energy harvesting applications in low pressure environments.
