Design and Implementation of a Temperature Monitoring System for the Safety of Electric Vehicle Transport on Maritime Transport
This paper presents a practical application for a growing technology: the Internet of Things (IoT). It details the design and implementation of a custom, battery-powered, embedded prototype system for fast and early fire detection in vehicles onboard maritime transport. The system primarily relies on gas detection and thermal imaging cameras. The system utilizes a network of portable sensors mounted underneath the vehicles for monitoring. These sensors communicate with a central base station using the LoRa protocol for long-range, low-power communication. Prior to installation, each sensor is programmed using an integrated keyboard to specify its exact mounting location. The base station then interrogates each sensor individually, receiving real-time data only from the queried sensor. This data includes the location, CO and COV concentrations, ambient temperature and humidity, and the temperature beneath the vehicle surface. The base station acts as a server with integrated Wi -Fi and Bluetooth for wireless communication. This allows for easy access to the collected data in the future from a mobile application, website, or online database. The data is displayed on a web interface for convenient monitoring and analysis. Additionally, both the base station and the web interface display visual alerts. To ensure quicker detection and response, an audio signal also sounds from the sensor that detects the danger.
