A New Remote System for Monitoring Physiological Parameters of Elderly People

In this paper, a new remote system for monitoring physiological parameters of elderly people is presented. The proposed patient monitoring system consists of a Fitbit Sense device, a smartphone that runs on the Android operating system, and a cloud-based infrastructure. The Fitbit Sense device runs a custom developed application that collects in the real-time physiological signal data, including heart rate, skin temperature, oxygen saturation and other parameters, and communicates with the smartphone companion solely through Bluetooth connectivity. The smartphone companion application then transmits this data to the cloud-based platform via cellular communication network or WiFi network. A remote patient monitoring application is running in cloud due to the flexibility and scalability offered by cloud computing services. With this solution, medical staff can configure device settings, receive timely notifications, and respond promptly to patient health issues without requiring on-site personnel. Additionally, medical staff or caretaker can remotely send personalized notifications and alerts directly to the Fitbit Sense device, enabling patients to take proactive control of their health.
