Synchronization Technique Improvement of Multi PMSMs Using Cross-Coupling Technique

This study presents an enhanced speed synchronization technique for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) systems using cross-coupling. Compared to other synchronization techniques, cross-coupling offers a superior level of coupling speed between motors, making it a preferred choice in many applications. The technique of cross-coupling synchronization is mainly intended for two motors. because the core concept of cross-coupling involves exchanging speed error signals between two motors. Expanding this to more than two motors become complex, but there are extensions and modifications to the technique that can accommodate more than two motors, such as combining cross-coupling with other synchronization or developing cross-coupling techniques. The objective of this paper is to establish a cross-coupling synchronization method that can accommodate more than two motors and ensure a consistent coupling speed. In this paper, the cross-coupling is developed by simply dividing PMSMs into groups, where each group consists of a maximum of two motors. If the number of PMSMs is odd, then there is a group with only one PMSM, while if the number is even, all groups have two PMSMs. Simulation result shows good synchronization performance with 0.5 radian per second synchronization error and 0.045 second steady-state error duration.
