Power Consumption Analysis of a Magnetic Crawler Prototype Using Experimental Method

Wall-climbing robots with tracked locomotion and magnetic adhesion are still a challenging area of research. This study focuses on understanding how varying the duty cycle affects power consumption in such robots. A prototype was tested with duty cycles ranging from 50% to 100%. Current and voltage data were collected using a Uni-T 204+ digital clamp meter and a Dekko DM179T multimeter, respectively. The robot was positioned vertically on an iron wall and allowed to climb upward. Power consumption for each duty cycle was calculated by multiplying the corresponding current and voltage values. The experimental results revealed a linear correlation between duty cycle and power consumption. As the duty cycle increased, so did the power consumption, ranging from 72.56 watts at 50% to 117.01 watts at 100%.
