Education 5.0: Transforming Engineering Education in the Age of Generative AI

The rise of generative AI is reshaping the landscape of Higher Education with implications we must understand and be prepared for. A future engineering graduate that fulfills the Industry 5.0 requirements must demonstrate proficiency in a range of competencies, including innovation, artificial intelligence (AI) methods, creativity, AI-supported decision-making, complex problem solving and leadership. This paper presents three case studies for developing future skills in Engineering Education for Industry 5.0 using problem-based learning, scenario-based learning and non-traditional laboratories that integrate generative AI in their teaching approaches. They were developed to increase students, motivation, curiosity, self-reflection, collaboration, hands-on and multiple perspective thinking of academic learning and new strategies to achieve established goals. Furthermore, the integration of generative AI, GNU Radio, powered GPUs represents a significant advance in radio transceiver development. This synergy boosts the performance and adaptability of radio systems, fostering new research and innovation opportunities in wireless communications.
