Brazilian Electromobility: A Brief Overview and Early Outcomes from an R&D Project
This study examines the evolution of electromobility in Brazil over the past five years, focusing on historical trends, market growth, and the impact of political incentives. A comparative analysis situates Brazil’s progress within the global landscape of electromobility, highlighting the gradual expansion of the electric vehicle (EV) fleet and market share. Insights from a recent Research and Development (R&D) project, which implemented and monitored 11 EV fast-charging stations, reveal key patterns in station usage, energy consumption, and operational challenges. The findings underline significant progress, including increased EV adoption, improved charging infrastructure, and enhanced user confidence, while also identifying critical challenges such as station congestion, uneven infrastructure distribution, and the need for more targeted public policies. This dual perspective of achievements and barriers offers a comprehensive outlook, guiding policymakers and industry stakeholders in developing strategic actions to accelerate Brazil’s transition to sustainable transportation.
