Dynamic Adaptation Algorithm of LoRa Communication Parameters in Wireless Sensor Networks
LoRa, an acronym for “Long Range” communication protocol, gained great popularity to be used in wireless sensor networks (WSN). The main advantage of this protocol is the reduced energy consumption for long-range data transmission. To make energy consumption more efficient a series of communication parameters must be adapted accordingly. This paper presents a dynamic adaptation algorithm that uses Spreading Factor, Coding Rate, Bandwidth, and Transmission Power to reduce packet errors with minimum energy consumption based on the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). Tests were made using a point-to-point scenario with a custom wireless sensor node for environmental data acquisition.
