Advancing Forest Conservation: IoT Devices for Monitoring the Wellbeing of Ecosystems

The paper proposes and IoT monitoring system that is able to detect and alert the competent authorities when illegal activities (such as deforestation or poaching) occur inside of protected forests, as well as establish an early alert system in case of forest fires. The monitoring system relies on a series of solar powered IoT nodes, which can connect to each other and transmit information from deep inside forests where data coverage may not be available.

Abstract

The paper proposes and IoT monitoring system that is able to detect and alert the competent authorities when illegal activities (such as deforestation or poaching) occur inside of protected forests, as well as establish an early alert system in case of forest fires. The monitoring system relies on a series of solar powered IoT nodes, which can connect to each other and transmit information from deep inside forests where data coverage may not be available.
