Implementation of Adaptive Algorithms for Direction-of-Arrival Estimation in Satellite Communication with Large-Space Array

This paper presents the implementation of the MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification) algorithm, for Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) estimation in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems using a Uniform Planar Antenna (UPA) array at the ground station. The paper discusses about the subspace tracking techniques used in the algorithms for DOA estimation process, and simulations are performed to evaluate the accuracy of these algorithms in a real based satellite communication scenario, in which it novels for implementing a method of FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing) for array element for mitigating grating lobe effects. The results demonstrate acceptable performance for estimation in this context, depending on direction of signal arrival.
