On Obtaining the MoM Formula for the Characteristic Mode Theory

This paper introduces a systematic approach for deriving the method of moments formulation of characteristic mode theory, starting from the foundational scattering operator-based definition. We illustrate this method by deriving the characteristic mode formula for a coated structure. The validity of our approach is confirmed through comparisons with analytical solutions, demonstrating the efficacy and accuracy of the derived formulations.

Abstract

This paper introduces a systematic approach for deriving the method of moments formulation of characteristic mode theory, starting from the foundational scattering operator-based definition. We illustrate this method by deriving the characteristic mode formula for a coated structure. The validity of our approach is confirmed through comparisons with analytical solutions, demonstrating the efficacy and accuracy of the derived formulations.
