Improving procedures for evaluating expanded uncertainty at measuring instruments calibrating

Measurement uncertainty evaluating according to the GUM and Supplement 1 to the GUM (GUMS1) produced different results due to the different computational methods and approximations involved in the two methodologies. It is proposed to eliminate this contradiction by using the kurtosis method. The use of the kurtosis method for expanded uncertainty evaluation in the implementation of basic methods for calibrating indicating measuring instruments and material measures is described. The effectiveness of using the kurtosis method for measurement uncertainty evaluation at calibrations is shown using examples from Supplement 2 to the EA-4/02, which were developed for situations where the distribution law of the measurand cannot be considered normal. Uncertainty budgets have been constructed, which can serve as a basis for automating the measurement uncertainty evaluation at calibrations.
