Comparative Analysis of Fire-Detection Characteristics of Si-Based RGB Color Sensors and Existing Fire-Detection Sensors
The industrial development and urbanization in modern society have accelerated the trend toward larger and taller buildings, thus resulting in more frequent large-scale fire incidents. Consequently, fire-detection technology has become more important. However, conventional fire detectors continue to be affected by issues such as false alarms caused by non-fire situations. Hence, this study proposes a novel fire-detection technology that utilizes Si-based RGB color sensors. An experimental fire-detection apparatus is developed, and the sensor detection characteristics under smoke and flame conditions are analyzed. The results confirm that the detection speed and sensor output vary depending on the type of combustible material used. Specifically, the Si-based RGB color sensor detected fires 26.7 and 43.7 s faster than temperature sensors in smoke and flame experiments, respectively, and 26.6 and 15.4 s faster than flame-detection sensors, respectively. Therefore, the proposed Si-based RGB color sensor performs better than the conventional fire detectors by offering rapid and more accurate fire detection, thus contributing to improved fire safety.
