Paradoks Regulasi Buku: Evaluasi Pengaturan Buku Umum di Indonesia

The book industry in Indonesia faces significant challenges due to weak regulation of general books. Although Law Number 3 of 2017 on the Book System (Sisbuk Law) was enacted to protect the publishing industry, its focus has primarily been on educational books, leaving general books under-regulated. As a result, the production and distribution of general books have declined, piracy is rampant, and public access to quality books is limited. This study employs a qualitative approach, using interviews and focus group discussions with key stakeholders, including publishers, authors, and government officials. The findings highlight the need for specific regulation of general books to filter content that does not align with cultural values and ensure the quality of books in circulation. The study recommends the establishment of an independent body for evaluating general books and policies that protect the publishing industry to strengthen the national literacy ecosystem.AbstrakIndustri perbukuan di Indonesia menghadapi tantangan besar akibat lemahnya regulasi terhadap buku umum.
