Integration of smart products for decision-making in strategic planning of industry 4.0

Industry 4.0, driven by technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, big data, and automation, is revolutionizing business models and operations. Central to this transformation are smart products, and internet-connected devices capable of collecting and transmitting real-time data, optimizing processes, and enabling personalized and continuously improving business models. This study proposes a novel architecture integrating smart products with the Reference Architecture Model for Industry 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) to enhance strategic decision-making. By offering a holistic view of the value chain, from product design to end-user applications, the architecture enables precise real-time data analysis, uncovering behavior patterns, consumer preferences, and process improvement opportunities. The integration provides a robust foundation for continuous monitoring and operational optimization, supporting faster, data-driven decision-making, improved efficiency, and superior customer experiences. This research highlights the transformative potential of smart products in strategic planning, empowering companies to anticipate demand, personalize offerings, and adapt rapidly to market dynamics, fostering competitiveness in a dynamic business environment.
