Design Of A 2 MW wind turbine for a proposed wind farm project in Nigeria using WT-PERF

This paper presents the results of a 2 MW wind turbine design carried out for the Langtang wind Farm project in Plateau State, Nigeria using the WT_PERF software. Selection of turbine rotor parameters is done in line with recommendations from the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) as well as available data from commercial turbine manufacturers. Due to availability of large wind resource in the proposed farm location, a turbine rotor radius of 22 m at a hub height of 40 m is chosen. Airfoils based on design by Dan Somers are selected for the design and an optimum blade planform is selected. The variation of rotor power generation with wind speeds as well as the application of varying blade pitch on power generation are discussed.
